Earthtone School of Music

ABOUT US

Learning music is an important part of the educational experience of a young person.  Unfortunately, as public school budgets are cut, music education is being set aside.  Earthtone School of Music is doing what we can to pick up the slack.  Further, we know children perform better in other academic areas when they learn to read music and develop skills to manage their time for practice and studying.  Our goal is to provide an experience for every student of any age to become a confident musician, an experience that transcends learning an instrument.

Earthtone School of Music is ABOUT YOU!  We share our knowledge, experience and expertise with each and every one of our students.  It is you, our students and community, that have made us what we are.  Our programs are not about the teachers, not about our programs even, but about the students in them.  Our special attention to music students as they development into artists promotes growth in our community that becomes alive with musical creativity.  This kind of creativity is not often found in environments where music lessons are taught by music retailers or in private homes.  Instead, our studio surrounds a student with music, instruments, and a community of students.  Earthtone School of Music provides the encouragement that inspires our students to put in the work necessary to realize their musical creativity.

Our Promise to Sacramento Music Students

We promise to develop the musicianship, technique, and artistry in each of our students.  We offer a safe environment that fosters the musical growth and creativity of students of all ages.  Musical tools are taught which will be used in the development of habits, producing skills by which any student can become the artist of their dreams. Through the communication and presentation of our curriculum as the foundation of how we meet the needs of our students, we build a relationship between our students, their families and our instructors. The community created within our school will provide a lasting and valuable impact not only on the individual, but on the greater community.  We believe that music is a lifelong gift that one gives themselves and the world around them.

We offer students an opportunity for extensive musical education. The programs at Earthtone School of Music are designed to ensure that music students who wish to go on to programs in higher education have a competitive edge on their peers, giving our students confidence and pride in their musical skills. From our ensembles and workshops to awards incentives and recitals, we provide students with the information to develop a solid foundation for fundamental musical technique and performance applications. Our programs will have a lasting impact on all our students and we guarantee a positive experience the student will always remember and grow from musically.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Private Lessons
Our primary program is private instruction between a teacher and student.  Lessons are scheduled weekly for one half hour.  Our instructors coach each student’s musical development in relation to the student's natural talents and abilities. Private instruction provides a student with optimum opportunity for musical growth and advancement.

Group Lessons
Our group lesson program is designed for small groups of two or three students, e.g. siblings, parent/child, adult couples or close friends, who wish to study the same instrument. These groups are also half hour weekly lessons.  Instruction presented to small groups of students is a great way to build individual enthusiasm and confidence as students observe one another's progress over time, sharing their experience.  We also offer this group experience as a cost effective way to introduce the routine of music studies to beginning students.

Session courses

Session classes are designed for multiple students who share similar interests.  Our classes offer music students a unique experience and an opportunity for the development and application of a range of different skills for students of all ages.  Similar to the experience a student may find in standard schools and colleges, our sessions are designed as “workshops” and typically run from 8 to 12 weeks depending on the specific course. We also cap enrollment for particular courses to ensure individualized attention for each student from the instructor.  The environment presented in the classroom setting of our sessions is generally easily paced and designed to accommodate the varying levels of experience and ability within the group of attending students.

  • Beginning Guitar Workshops
These classes are for absolute beginning guitar students and introduce elementary concepts such as tuning, technique, posture, basic rhythm and strumming patterns.  Separated into a youth group for students 8 – 16 years of age and an adult group for students over 16 years, Beginning Guitar Workshops are perfect for a cost effective introduction to music studies.
  • Core Music
Music theory is an integral part of an educated musician's understanding of their art.  Musical fundamentals are absolutely necessary for the music composer and performer alike.  Core Music classes introduce the foundations and basic principles of music and provide practical applications useful for any musician interested in any instrument.
  • Songwriter's Workshop
Songs tell the stories of our lives and portray our moods and emotions.  How do you support those lyrical ideas you’ve been writing on notebook pages or napkins with the appropriate sounds in chords and melodies?  Our workshops offer suggestions based on music fundamentals to help the aspiring songwriter with that catchy hook and chorus.
  • Ensembles
Our ensembles are groups directed by qualified staff members in which students in private lessons on different instruments can apply their skills in a band setting. These are also “session” classes and are geared toward our annual recital performances.
